Actually, those drivers were for Windows Server 2003 and XP x64, not Vista.
I just checked the page, no drivers available for your processo that supports Vista: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_12474,00.html -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Lanthos is looking for an AMD processor driver, not an ATI video driver. My Athlon-64 processor is listed in Device Manager with a recent driver. I don't recall whether it was supplied by MS or by AMD, but my impression is that this driver is should suffice. How can you tell that the errors you're seeing are from the processor driver? Is there something in Event logs that gives you that information?

In the device manager I have an exclamation point next to my processor, and it says: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
It also shows up in my performance log as a slow down.

My AMD processor driver is by Microsoft. It's dated 6/21/2006, and its version is 6.0.5384.4.
Does that match what you have installed? If not, I'd try to update that driver and then let Vista search for a driver rather than supplying it with something you get from AMD.

Bug: When you have installed AMD's drivers for Windows XP, then perform an upgrade, it does not remove the driver. It simply tries to use AMD's driver which causes slow downs and fails to start the driver. Vista then does something else, which causes your cpu to run 100% all the time, and slows down the computer. You are unable to uninstall the AMD driver after Vista is installed, and updates to the driver fail.
After a clean install of Vista, microsofts driver loads and I have no problems. The computer runs faster, it no longer shows as a slow down to preformance, and Aero is now running. Performance score is also significantly better. One other bug was the ATI drivers for my mobility 9600 have the same bug with an upgrade to Vista, but I was able to fix that by manually loading the new vista driver. Install didnt work.
Another bug, or symptom of this was missed keystrokes while typing in this forum. I would hit the keys but it would miss some of my keystrokes, also solved with a clean install.
To do the install: From Vista to Vista, I was able to go to Admin tools in the control panel, Disk Management, and resize my existing ntfs partition and create two new ones. One of which I placed the folder with my iso extracted to. The other spare partition will be for a X64 inall.
I ran the install from within Vista, from my folder, and did a clean install. Which seemed faster then an upgrade.
Things run great now, I am happy. Next I have to try to install my office beta on it. After I ghost the drive.;)
